Mesomorph, Endomorph or Ectomorph?

What Do These Terms Even Mean?

You may have come across these the terms mesomorph, endomorph or ectomorph. So what the heck do they even mean and what does that have to do with your personal health and fitness? Well for starters these terms are more so speaking about what body type that you have. For instance an ectomorph is someone who has a lean to thin physique. The typical traits that an ectomorph has is a VERY fast metabolism. Thus due to their high metabolism they have to consume more energy than the average person.

Now that we got that out of the way as you read this post you’ll find out whether your body type is like that of an mesomorph, endomorph or ectomorph. You’ll also learn what type of diet that you can use specifically for your body since everyone’s different. Naturally not everyone will need the same diet since everyone’s metabolism functions differently. As you read this post you’ll also find out how this can impact you’re physical health and performance so stick around.

If You’re Body-Type’s Ectomorphic

Like mentioned earlier this typically means that you have smaller joints and slim to lean muscles. It’s super typically of someone who’s an ectomorph to have a high metabolism. This can be a pain if you want to put on weight since your metabolism causes you to burn more energy than the normal person.

Not to mention also that you have to eat more food and work harder to build muscle. Even though you may have to deal with these issues if you have this body-type you’re not beyond hope. Whenever you eat breakfast make sure it consists of lots of good carbs and protein. For instance you can eating foods like-

  • Oatmeal
  • Whole grain pancakes
  • Whole grain waffles
  • potatoes
  • Ground beef
  • Sausages
  • Water

After you’re done eating a big breakfast have a snack afterwards. This may sound like over kill but since your body is already going to burn through all of that energy you’ll want a healthy snack to have the extra energy for your body to use. For people who are ectomorphs (like me) you actually want to eat six meals a day. Here’s what that’ll look like-

  • Breakfast
  • Healthy snack (Fruit smoothie or shake)
  • Lunch
  • Healthy snack (Fruit smoothie or shake)
  • Dinner
  • Bedtime snack (lookin’ boy…just kidding)

Of course you’ll also want to workout during your day. So it could be after breakfast, when you eat a snack after lunch or after dinner. The important thing is to consume the right amount of energy for your body-type and to train hard. But you also want to remember that you always want to eat and work out with the intent of improving you health and you physical performance first. Your physique that you want is just a result of the hard core training that you do.

Don’t go anywhere just yet. We’re going to talk more about whether you’re body-type is like that of a mesomorph, endomorph or ectomorph.

If You’re Body-Type Is Endomorphic

Contrary to those who are ectomorphic people who are endomorphs typically have a slower metabolism thus it’s easier to gain weight as oppose to losing it. Often times they wish they had an ectomorphs issue. However there’s still an advantage that people who are endomorphs have over those who are ectomorphs. Even though people with an endomorphic body-type do struggle with a slow metabolism, they’re naturally stronger than people who are ectomorphs.

Having said all of that if you are an endomorph then you already know that you shouldn’t eat as much someone who’s an ectomorph would. So what should you do? Starve yourself on a diet? Well you still have to eat to survive. The best that you can do is cut back on the foods that are high in carbs. Since someone who’s an endomorph doesn’t burn as much energy as quickly as someone who’s ectomorphic you’ll want to try an alternative form of dieting.

The objective that you want to have is a wholesome diet that’ll help lose that excess weight and regulate your metabolism. So for instance you’ll want to consume foods such as

  • Walnuts
  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Vegetable Juice
  • Mixed Solid Vegetables

With consistency and discipline you’ll be able to regulate your metabolism more sufficiently. The other important thing is that you also want to consistently exercise at least 3 days a week. Calisthenics is one of the best ways to regulate your weight since you naturally burn more energy when you use your own body.

Now that we’ve discussed how to identify if you’re an ectomorph or an endomorph and what you can do to refine your diet let’s move on to the mesomorphs.

If You’re A Mesomorph

Okay now this is where I personally have to express admiration. Mesomorphs don’t seem to have the same problem as someone who’s an ectomorph or someone who’s an endomorph. In fact people with this body type can naturally develop a muscular build. This is due to the fact that they have a higher percentage of muscle than they do fat.

Put simply, they have a nice balance of the two. The burn energy but not as fast and they can gain the right amount of weight to have their ideal build. Since people with a mesomorph body-type can gain or lose weight easily they can pretty much eat whatever they want.

I may not be a doctor or a physical therapist but I wouldn’t advise going on a sweetness rampage. No matter what you’re body type is you still want to eat healthy with the intent of improving both your vitality and your performance. Having said all of that, people with this body type can typically have a straightforward diet. Here’s what I mean when I say straightforward-

  • Fruits & Vegetables: Like fruits high in antioxidants or that have a good amount of fiber etc.,.

  • Protein: Such as brown meat, white meat, plant based protein, fish, dairy based protein etc.,.

  • Whole Grain Carbs: Like quinoa, wheat bread, oatmeal, rice etc.,.

Basically if you’re a mesomorph then you can pretty much eat everything that’s on the food pyramid without any real issues. Aren’t you glad that you don’t have the troubles of burning energy too fast or too slow? You should be because I wish I was a mesomorph. Unfortunately my body-type is like that of an ectomorph (*sigh*).

Bottom Line

where can vegetarians get protein

So why all of the discussion about body types? To put simply since everyone’s body type is different you have to find a diet that’s right for you. But no matter if you’re a mesomorph, endomorph or ectomorph you always want to eat healthy and work with two things in mind. Eat wholesome foods to strengthen your physical vitality and train hard to improve your physical performance.

You may not be an athlete but that doesn’t mean that your shouldn’t be concerned with your daily physical performance. So find a diet that’s right specifically for you. So which body-type are you and what’s been you’re solution? Leave your thoughts in the comment section below.

Always remember to stay healthy and fit.
